Date: 20 February 2018 All programmes were run with Stata 14. Data used: 1) Global Financial Development Database. Download the June 2017 version. 2) Fitch Connect. As the data is proprietary we cannot share it directly. Download from Fitch Connect for all countries and all years available the following data: FitchID Period Country FC_TOTAL_ASSETS_BNK!USD FC_TOTAL_LIAB_BNK!USD FC_TOTAL_EQUITY_TOTAL_ASSETS_BNK FC_TOTAL_INT_EXP_BNK!USD FC_INT_EXP_AVG_INT_LIAB_BNK Nominal variables are all in current USD. Once the data is downloaded, store it in Dataset_FitchConnect.dta. Programmes description: a) "Main_run.do" runs all the other programmes. b) "Create_GFDD_Data.do" loads the excel file for Global Financial Development Database and prepares the necessary data. c) "Create_Data_From_FitchConnect_clean.do" takes the bank level data from Fitch Connect, transforms it in country year format as explained in the paper and merges it with the GFDD data d) "Skewnesses_program.do" is a user written program which computes a number of skewness measures at the country-year level from the bank-year data. e) "Regressions_script_clean.do" runs the regressions presented in the paper.
